Small Bedroom Design – Make Your Bedroom Look Bigger And More Comfortable

April 9th, 2012 Comments off

Having a small bedroom should not be a problem when you know how to design and decorate it. Through the right approach, you are going to easily forget that it is small and instead will let you feel not only like it is bigger but more comfortable and relaxing to stay at. It may seem impossible for you, but you can achieve this effect and stop getting guilty that you have it small.

Start by de-cluttering it with mess, meaning you have to toss off things that are not of much use. Replace them with essentials only. Along with that, consider the following ideas to achieve that bigger look as well as comfortable and cozy feel:

1. Color

Apply the bedroom with brighter paint colors. It is a way to let natural light getting inside the small room reflected in these colors making your room appear bigger.

2. Mirrors

Putting mirrors in some key areas is a great way for adding dimension to the small bedroom. They enhance space of the room because of the doubled-look effect. Just make sure you don’t place a mirror that reflects the part where you don’t want it exposed.

3. Beds

Use slim-framed furniture and bed to avoid taking up much of the space. Fold-down beds are great for small bedrooms, as well as bedroom closets. The latter is a type that is provided with built-in shelves, typically just underneath it.

Platform beds are also great choice for small bed. These are basically the kind with the low height, usually with only a foot high above the floor level of the room. The effect is that it actually makes volume and the bedroom looks bigger.

If to use conventional beds, you can have the space underneath by placing storage boxes or shelves. At one side of the bed, you can place a table or chair where you can put your reading lamp. Make sure it matches your bed for more stylish effect.

4. Shelves

Floor-to-ceiling book shelves are also great to store your small items and mementos, and of course, your books. This kind of shelve will not necessitate any more kinds of furniture because you can put virtually all the things in there. The result is saved spaces.

5. Furniture

Small furniture will do in small bedrooms, but arranging all pieces is they key to achieving the space-saving intention while keeping them still fashionable. Place these pieces at angles to help distract visual lines off the walls.

6. Wall paper

This is one of the most important items that you can focus on to achieve the illusion of bigger space. Wallpapers with horizontal patterns create effects of horizontal expansions.

How a 4ft Bed Is Ideal for Your Bedroom

February 19th, 2012 Comments off

When picking a bed, a fair amount of time should be taken to ensure all the different considerations are properly looked at. There are a lot of places that can offer advice when it comes to choosing from in store staff to online bed forums.

There are different bed sizes, which makes choosing between them trickier. The 4ft bed is smaller than a regular double therefore better known as being ideal for young adults where the extra space around the bed gives them more room in most sized bedrooms while at the same time not being as limiting as a single bed. Traditionally the 4ft bed was called a double, but now a double refers to a slightly larger bed, while the 4ft bed is known as a small double.

4ft beds are good in smaller flats or apartments, whereas in a big house with lots of room to sprawl out the comfort of a regular double or queen sized bed is more easily justified. It’s important to ensure that the bed isn’t too large for the room. Humans have been growing larger, so therefor bed sizes have changed and adapted too.

The main thing to remember when selecting a bed is comfort. Shopping online for a bed becomes a little harder. But the big advantage of shopping online is the number of reviews available, the wide range of products, the price, and of course the wider range of delivery options and pricing. That said, sometimes there’s a good argument for shopping in-store and getting to actually see or feel the product. Comfort doesn’t just mean the size of the bed and the comfort of the mattress, but also the amount of space that is left in the room. In small rooms a small double might be just enough for enjoyable sleep while leaving enough space in the room to truly relax.

When guests come to stay it’s good to be able to give them a comfortable place to stay, and a double bed can be a good choice in a smaller room.

How To Make Your Bedroom More Sensual

February 19th, 2012 Comments off

Start by giving your room a good look. Remove all the clutter in order to get an idea of the lines, the shades, the furniture and the possibilities.

Next, look at the colors of your room. Are they pale, feminine or devoid of life? If so, replace them with vivid shades, the deep dramatic colors of dark green, the warm hues of yellow and the burning powers of red and orange. Red, always associated with love and passion, is perceived by some as best for sexual energy. It is not always, however, a good idea to paint a room red. It can over power the rest of the decor. At its very worst, red becomes reminiscent of old-time cathouses and does not call to mind the right amount of sensuality.

Red may, instead, be used to accent and accessorize. Try red candles and oil lamps. Perhaps you have antique candle sticks or a boudoir lamp. Both can add to the overall sense of sensuality that you want to pervade the bedroom. Dim lights, candles and soft lamps or lampshades, conjure up fire images of passion and add to the entire atmosphere.

Sensual bedrooms are all about atmosphere. The burning of incense, the lighting of candles, the playing of soft music – all provide a background of sensual illusion. The addition of scented candles or smoking potpourri is beneficial, but, as with the color red, don’t over do it. Please, as well, take into consideration, whether your partner or s/he who would be seduced is allergic to any particular scent. The same applies to adding flowers or any other scented objects e.g. rose petals or lavender flowers scattered on the bed sheets.

If you have the money, buy a four-poster bed with a canopy. If not, you could buy or make a lace or net canopy that hangs suspended from the ceiling, draping sensuously over the bed. Avoid at all costs, however, the complete feminization of the bedroom. Lacy pillows and gauzy materials may not be considered sensual by your partner.

Make the bed comfortable. Install erotic looking plump pillows and crisp sheets. Some people find silk or satin sheets, red or black, to add to the mood. Others do not care as long as the sheets are clean, comfortable and cool to the touch.

A wonderful addition to a bedroom that can increase the level of sexual energy is a screen. Place it in a corner for disrobing behind. Have it at neck height adding to the allure. If it appears semi sheer through back lighting, the act of undressing becomes sensuous and not simply part of a routine.

Cleaning House Tips – How to Clean Your Bedroom

February 19th, 2012 Comments off

You should keep your bedroom as clean as possible, since it makes the room much more comfortable. Also, by decluttering your bedroom, you get rid of all the unessential stuff that doesn’t belong in there and that makes the cleaning faster.

These are the steps I take when cleaning and decluttering my bedroom.

Identify the ideal way of working in the room
In my bedroom, I like to start from the most difficult place first. For me this is under the bed, since it’s the most difficult place to reach with my vacuum cleaner.

Declutter first
Most of the time there is only just a little bit of clutter my bedroom, so I don’t have to do much decluttering. However, no matter how much clutter there is, I like to do this first so it’s eventually easier for me to clean the room.

For the most parts the decluttering means putting the books I read to my nightstand locker. Also, sometimes there might be a piece of clothing on my bed. That’s what I put into the closet.

Take care of the floors and baseboards
I start cleaning the floor under the bed first. After cleaning the floor under the bed, I clean rest of the floor space, then proceed to baseboards and finally any levels there are, like the top of the nightstands.

Put the day blanket on
One thing that really makes my bedroom look nice is the use of day blanket. Since our bed covers most of the floor space in our bedroom, a tidy bed makes the room look tidier than what it actually is.
